Arm Bumps

This is a slot i decided to do as it was requested this morning by a lovely lady, you know who you are.  So here it is.

THE PROBLEM: ARM BUMPS

If the backs of your arms look like gooseflesh and feel scratchy, like sandpaper, and you're prone to dry skin or eczema, you could have a benign, common condition called keratosis pilaris. (It's caused when keratin, a protein in the skin, forms hard plugs within hair follicles. ) Keratosis Pilaris is seen in a rash of small red bumps most commonly found on the backs of the arms, thighs, buttocks and less commonly on the face cheeks which may be mistaken for acne. "KP" is caused by the skin's inability to shed dead skin cells and in some cases hair folicles over produce keratin, a milky white protien. Sometimes due to the bumps and irritaion ingrown hairs may occur. They usually aren't harmful, painful or itchy, but they are very annoying and can cause self-consciousness. The symptoms are generally worse in the winter as dry skin amplifies the effects of the disorder. There is no cure for "KP" since it is a genetic skin disorder that affects 40% of the world population, but there are treatments. Whatever you do, don't try to scrub the raised bits away with rough exfoliants—you'll just irritate the skin, making the bumps inflamed. Instead, use washes and lotions with alpha hydroxy acids (like the Glytone Keratosis Pilaris Kit, which contains both).  This product can be bought through http://www.amazon.com/Glytone-Kit-15-1-ounce-Package/dp/B002D48QR0 Then use a hydrocortisone cream to reduce the redness, and the bumps should clear up in three weeks.  You can also get prescriptive steriod creams from your doctor if the condition is really bad. For the cheaper option first try to put noncomedogenic lotion on as often as possible (lotion not tending to clog pores). So use noncomedogenic cosmetics also for keeping pores as clear as possible such as Eucerin Replenishing Cream for the cheaper option found in most chemists
